Some brands aren’t just products, they become legends. Pall Mall (often pronounced PELL MELL in America) has become just such a legend. Pall Mall was named after a fashionable street in the uptown part of London. Famous Pall Mall smokers include the late great American author Kurt Vogennut, Johnny Depp (in the movie Secret Window) and this writer’s mother. Pall Mall was introduced in 1899 by the Butler & Butler Company. When Butler & Butler merged with American Tobacco Company in 1907, they became the proud owners of Pall Mall. Pall Mall was the first brand of cigarette to come out in King Size. Pall Mall was also the first brand of cigarette to loosely pack the tobacco to make smoking them gentler to the smoker’s throat. In the 1960’s, it was the most popular brand in America, smoked by men and women.
After all these years, Pall Mall has become a legend because it was and still made with the best tobacco. It also now has a filter which is reported by smokers to make the cigarette last longer. The packaging is distinct, with PALL MALL prominently displayed over a Royal coat of arms. The words “Wherever Particular People Gather Together” are printed underneath.
