L&M
Some icons can be identified only through their initials. L & M cigarettes are as simple, classic and as distinctive as their name. They focus on making a good cigarette rather than making a clever wrapper. The packaging says all you need to know – big colored initials L&M on a white background. They are “The Proud Smoke”. L & M stands for Leggitt & Myers Tobacco Company, which began in America in the early 1800’s. Leggitt & Myers’ most famous brand was Chesterfields, but many prefer the blend found in L & M. Although the L & M Tobacco Company went out of business by 1900, smokers had already equated the initials L&M with quality cigarettes, so the L & M name has stayed, even though today L & M are made by Phillip Morris/ Altria. L & M cigarettes are made now in Russia and the Ukraine. They have become very popular in Europe and the Middle East.
